The game is the most popular title on the service for this year.

Last week saw the release of High on Life, a comedy sci-fi shooter created by Justin Roiland, co-creator of animated series Rick and Morty. As you’d expect, the game is full of Roiland’s usual brand of irreverent humor, though while some people find that kind of humor hit or miss, it has apparently done quite well for itself on the Game Pass scene.

In addition to its regular platform launch, High on Life also released day one on Xbox’s Game Pass subscription service, and in just one week, it has become the service’s most-played game for the entirety of 2022. Not only that, High on Life has become the biggest third-party game to launch on the service since its inception.

“This was our first time launching a game with Game Pass,” Mike Fridley, Studio Director and COO of Squanch Games, said on the official Xbox blog, “and we’ve been blown away by the response from the players who have made us the most popular game on Game Pass right now. When Squanch Games was first created, it was to make the games we wanted to play – and Game Pass is helping us reach the players that want to play those games too.”

“High On Life is an incredibly unique title that we’ve been excited about for a long time,” said Matt Percy, General Manager of Content Planning at Xbox. “It’s fantastic to see so many Game Pass members jump into it at launch to experience Squanch’s story for themselves ahead of the holidays.”
