Xbox Game Pass subscribers have three new games to explore this week, but only one of them is actually brand new.

Between September 8 and September 10, 2026, Microsoft confirmed three additions to the Xbox Game Pass library. The lineup includes a returning Call of Duty campaign, a fresh indie deckbuilder, and a fighting game joining the subscription catalog for the first time. All three are available on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, PC Game Pass, and Game Pass Premium.

Here is the lineup at a glance:

  • Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, added September 8
  • The Royal Writ, added September 10 (new release)
  • Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. World Stage, added September 10

1. Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War

COD: Black Ops Cold War joined Game Pass on September 8. The game was originally released in 2020, so this is not a new build. It gives subscribers access to the full campaign, plus multiplayer and Zombies modes.

The single-player campaign is set in the early 1980s. Players visit locations including East Berlin, Vietnam, and Soviet KGB headquarters as they work through Cold War-era political tension. The game received mixed reviews at launch. Critics praised the campaign but pointed to weaker multiplayer content and technical issues. For subscribers who skipped it in 2020, Game Pass now lets you try it without buying the full game.

2. The Royal Writ

The Royal Writ is the only true new release in this week’s lineup. It launches on September 10 across Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch, and it arrives on Xbox Game Pass the same day. That makes it a day-one Game Pass title, so subscribers can play it as soon as it releases instead of waiting for it to join the subscription later. It is also available on Xbox handheld devices through Game Pass.

Save Sloth Studios developed the game, and Yogscast Games published it. It is a medieval, lane-based roguelike deckbuilder. Players recruit a cast of unusual fighters, including ants, bats, and lizards, then send them down lanes toward the enemy’s gates. Combat is card-based, and success depends on balancing unit strength with multiplier effects. The roguelike structure means death is permanent within a run. Once a unit is destroyed, it stays out of the deck for the rest of that playthrough.

3. Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. World Stage

Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. World Stage is not a new game either. It originally launched on Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 on October 30, 2025. On September 10, 2026, it joined the Xbox Game Pass library.

This version of Virtua Fighter 5 includes crossplay and rollback netcode, which improves connection stability during online matches. Its October 2025 update also introduced a new single-player mode called World Stage, which is where the current title comes from. For fighting game fans who never picked it up, this is a chance to try a well-regarded 3D fighter without buying it separately.

What This Means for Subscribers

Together, these three additions give Game Pass subscribers a shooter campaign, a new strategy game, and a fighting game in the same week. Only The Royal Writ is a genuinely new release. The other two were already available elsewhere and are now easier to access through the subscription.

Microsoft is also removing several games from Game Pass on September 15, including Cyberpunk 2077, Dead Cells, and Frostpunk 2, along with seven other titles. Subscribers who want to finish those games should plan to do so before that date.
