Gran Turismo 7 will receive new content this month, ending a rare two-month gap without any updates.
Polyphony Digital’s racing simulator first launched on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 in March 2022 and has stayed in active development ever since. The developer regularly sends free updates that add cars, races, and other content to the game.
On August 9, series creator Kazunori Yamauchi confirmed on X, formerly known as Twitter, that a new update is on the way, following a July that passed without any new content.
An update is coming next week.
This time, there are some pretty niche cars included.

This is not a new Gran Turismo game. It is the next free content update for the existing Gran Turismo 7, which has now been actively supported for more than four years.
Yamauchi’s post included a teaser image showing four car silhouettes, a format Polyphony Digital regularly uses to hint at new additions before a full reveal. He described the cars as somewhat “niche” and said the update would arrive “next week.” Polyphony Digital has not announced an exact release date.
The car names have not been officially confirmed. Several Gran Turismo fan sites, including GTPlanet and Traxion, have compared the silhouettes to specific production cars and reached a similar set of guesses:
- Toyota Chaser Tourer V JZX100, a 1990s Japanese sports sedan known for its turbocharged 1JZ-GTE engine and rear-wheel-drive layout
- Toyota Mark II Tourer V JZX100, a mechanically related sedan from the same era
- Hyundai Ioniq 6 N, a battery-electric performance car
- Caterham Seven Superlight R500, a lightweight British sports car that hasn’t been part of the series since Gran Turismo 6
These identifications come from community analysis of the teaser image, not from an official Polyphony Digital announcement. The final lineup could differ once the update notes are published.
The previous confirmed update, version 1.70, arrived on June 11 and focused on endurance racing. It added five cars: the BMW M Hybrid V8 ’25, Ferrari 499P ’23, Peugeot 9X8 ’25, Porsche 963 ’24, and Porsche 911 Turbo S Safety Car. That same update also brought new World Circuits races, an Extra Menu in the game’s Café mode, and additional Scapes photo locations, including several set around Pikes Peak.
August’s update will also arrive close to the Gran Turismo World Series 2026, with Round 2 of the competition scheduled for Tokyo on August 15. Polyphony Digital has not said the two events are connected, though the developer has timed content updates around major World Series rounds before.
Polyphony Digital typically publishes full patch notes and a trailer the day before an update goes live. Based on that pattern, players can expect official confirmation of the car names and other additions within the next few days, with the update itself following shortly after.
Gran Turismo 7 is now entering its fifth year of support. Each update has steadily expanded the game’s car list and event calendar well beyond what shipped at launch in 2022, and August’s addition, once confirmed, will be the latest step in that process.
