The ad was spotted on a Dutch promo poster.

The long-awaited sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, is slated to launch exclusively on Nintendo Switch in May of 2023. Despite the looming release, many of the game’s details have been kept tightly under wraps, with even its promo trailers only offering sparse hints and speculation. However, if a recently-discovered promo ad is to be believed, one of the game’s new features may relate to online support.

A Reddit user named Few_Working3350 posted to the Nintendo Switch subreddit earlier this week with a supposed image of a Tears of the Kingdom ad in a storefront. Based on the language on the ad, it appears to be Dutch in origin. The ad reads “Haal meer uit je Nintendo Switch,” or “get more out of your Nintendo Switch!” Notably, the ad also features a prominent Nintendo Switch Online logo, indicating that one of the ways you’d “get more out of your Switch” with this game involves some manner of online support.

Obviously, this remains in the realm of speculation, but that hasn’t stopped Reddit users from theorizing. The most obvious application of Switch Online to a Zelda game is DLC content, such as the Champion’s Ballad DLC that was released for Breath of the Wild. However, some have speculated that, given the game’s open-ended design, there could be a simple means of communication between players similar to that seen in games like Elden Ring. Or it could just be a misprint.

Nintendo has not commented on the image at the time of writing.
