Google is giving eligible college students worldwide a full year of premium AI access at no cost. The deadline to claim it is December 31, 2026.
Google announced this offer on August 19, 2026, as part of its back-to-school campaign. Eligible students in the United States and over 140 other countries can claim a free 12-month plan.
Let’s see what each group of students gets, who qualifies, and how to complete the claim process correctly.

The offer is split into two tiers based on your country, plus a separate bundle option.
For Students in the United States: Google AI Pro
- Free for 12 months (Actual price = $19.99/month)
- Access to Gemini Spark, Google’s advanced AI model
- 4x higher usage limits compared to free Gemini users

For Students Who Want YouTube Premium Too: The Bundle
In some markets, Google also offers a discounted bundle that combines Google AI Pro with a YouTube Premium individual subscription at up to 70% off. This bundle requires SheerID verification (explained below) and is valid for up to 4 years, renewing automatically at the standard monthly price once your verified student status ends.
Note: Both the free AI Pro and free AI Plus plans include access to the new Student Hub and study tools described later in this guide.
Who Is Eligible
Eligible Students
- Enrolled at an accredited college or university
- Located in one of the eligible markets (see exclusions below)
- 18 years of age or older (age requirements may vary slightly by country; check your region’s sign-up page)
Countries Excluded from the Free AI Plus Offer
Even though Google AI Plus is available in many markets, the free student offer for AI Plus specifically excludes the following countries:
- United States (US students get AI Pro instead)
- Canada
- Bolivia
- Albania
- Macau
- Hong Kong
- Tunisia
If your country is not on this exclusion list and Google AI Plus is generally available there, you are likely eligible. Confirm by visiting the official student page and checking what offer appears for your account.
Note for Canadian students: Canada is excluded from the free AI Plus offer. However, Canadian students may still qualify for the discounted Google AI Pro + YouTube Premium bundle. Check the official student page with a Canadian account to see what is available to you.
What to Prepare Before You Start to Claim
Have the following ready before you begin the sign-up process:
- Your personal ‘@gmail.com’ email address and password
- Your school or university email address
- A valid credit or debit card (required to set up the subscription; you will not be charged during the 12-month free period)
- A photo of your student ID or a current-term enrollment document, in case the system requests manual review
How to Claim the Offer: Step by Step
Step 1: Go to the Official Student Page
Visit gemini.google.com/students or one.google.com/ai-student.
These are the only official pages for this offer. Do not attempt to claim the offer through a third-party website.
Step 2: Sign In with Your Personal Google Account
When prompted to sign in, use your personal Gmail account, not your school-issued account.
Google Workspace for Education accounts (the ones managed by your university’s IT department, usually ending in your school domain) cannot host individual Google AI subscriptions. If you try to sign in with your school account, you will see an “Offer not available” error. Your school email is used only for verification, not as the account that holds the subscription.
Step 3: Select Your Offer
The page will detect your region and display the applicable offer. US students will see the Google AI Pro offer. Students in other eligible countries will see the Google AI Plus offer. Students in some particular markets will also see the bundle option.
Step 4: Verify Your Student Status
You will be asked to confirm that you are an enrolled student. Depending on your region and the offer you are claiming:
- For the free AI Pro or AI Plus offer: Enter your school or university email address when prompted. This confirms your enrollment.
- For the YouTube Premium bundle: Verification is done through SheerID, a third-party service. Enter your personal details and school email as prompted. In most cases, verification completes within minutes. If your institution isn’t automatically recognized, SheerID may request supporting documentation, such as your student ID or an enrollment transcript. Manual reviews typically take between 20 minutes and 48 hours, after which you will receive a confirmation email at your personal Gmail address.
Step 5: Enter a Valid Payment Method
Provide a valid credit or debit card. This is required to complete the sign-up. You will not be charged during the 12-month free period. Your card is charged only if you do not cancel before the period ends.
Step 6: Confirm and Activate
Complete the on-screen sign-up steps. Your subscription will activate immediately. To access the Student Hub and study tools, go to gemini.google.com/students inside the Gemini app.
