Looks like an oldie, runs like a newie.
Apple has released its latest iMac desktop. It looks like a 2012 model on the outside, but performs like a 2020 model thanks to its ultra-powerful Intel 8-core i9 processor.
The new iMac has two models, the base model with a 21.5-inch screen and 4K resolution and the beastly 27-inch model with 5K resolution. This 5K model is also equipped with Radeon Pro Vega 48 graphics, 16GB of RAM, and the latest 8-core 3.6GHz Intel i9 processor.
Judging from the outside, the iMac doesn’t seem to have changed as much. It still features the same design and style as it did more than half a decade ago. From the exterior alone, it would seem that there isn’t anything new that Apple is offering when it comes to their desktop.
However, look past the dated exterior and you’ll find a way powerful configuration that’s pretty hard to top in today’s market. The newest iMac will easily blaze through each and every single benchmark test that you throw at it. On Geekbench 4, for example, the 5K iMac achieved a single thread score of 6313 and a multi-core score of 32954. On Cinebench R20, it earned 4108. On Unigine Heaven Benchmark 4.0, the iMac achieved an average FPS of 68 a maximum FPS of 125.3. That’s certainly impressive, even for its specs.
Currently, the 5K iMac comes at several price options, such as the 8B RAM 1TB Fusion Drive for $3150, the 8GB RAM 2TB SSD for $3650, and the most expensive one being 64GB RAM 2TB SSD for $5250.
