In Japanese folklore, the Hyakki Yako (which roughly translates to “Night Parade of 100 Demons”) is a procession of demons and spirits marching through the streets in the dead of night. It was said that anyone unfortunate enough to be out after dark when the parade rolled into town would be either struck dead or spirited away. That should give you an idea of what you’re in for when the Hyakki Yako rolls through in Ghostwire: Tokyo. Here’s how to find a Hyakki Yako in Ghostwire: Tokyo.
Ghostwire: Tokyo Hyakki Yako Locations
Much like its namesake, the Hyakki Yako in Ghostwire: Tokyo is a slow, unnerving procession of Visitors and demons that occasionally appears in the streets of Tokyo. KK will warn Akito about them the first time he encounters one, urging him to give them a wide berth. Indeed, if encountered early in the game, it’s best to just let the Hyakki Yako pass by without getting in their way if you don’t want to get killed.
If you do walk into the procession, you’ll be spirited away into a pocket dimension, where you’ll be beset by several waves of Visitors and demons. It’s a difficult and dangerous fight, but if you can successfully defeat them and destroy the parade, you’ll be rewarded with a large number of human Souls to rescue. Once you’re confident in your fighting abilities, it’s a great way to level up quickly.
Where to Find a Hyakki Yako

So how do you actually find one of these unearthly parades? Well, that’s the tricky part. Spirits are finicky and don’t run their parades on a particular schedule, which means there is no guaranteed way to come across a Hyakki Yako. However, there are some commonalities to their appearances, as well as a couple of tricks you can use to improve the odds.
Firstly, while it’s not a hard-and-fast requirement, Hyakki Yako are more likely to appear in wide, open spaces. They won’t show up in alleyways or secluded spots; the best spots to look for them are large, public roads. This is why the Shibuya Scramble Crossing is one of the most common stages for a Hyakki Yako, though you can also look near the large roads near Shimokusa and Mikubo Shrines, as well as the Shibuya Retail Complex.
Secondly, as the appearance of a Hyakki Yako is chance-based, you can quickly re-roll the world by fast-traveling to nearby landmarks. As of the Spider’s Thread update, you can also make a wish at any shrine’s offering box to increase the likelihood of a Hyakki Yako spawn. Make that wish, check out the nearest commercial road, and if there’s no Hyakki Yako, fast-travel back to the shrine and go again. It’s not a foolproof method, but it is the best one for finding a Hyakki Yako.
Whenever you’re in the mood to bust a large number of ghosts at once, seek out a Hyakki Yako. Of course, more often than not, you don’t find the Hyakki Yako. The Hyakki Yako finds you.
