Tokyo is a really big city, in case you weren’t aware. That’s important to know because in the event the city’s entire populace is spirited away and you are the sole living resident with the means to fix it all, you probably shouldn’t expect the matter to be settled quickly. Such is the situation of Ghostwire: Tokyo, a hybrid walking tour of Tokyo’s busiest areas and a pro-bono ghostbusting simulator, the combined efforts of which will make for a bit of an undertaking. Here’s Ghostwire: Tokyo‘s time to beat and the number of chapters.

Ghostwire: Tokyo: Time to Beat and Chapters

Ghostwire: Tokyo is an open-world sandbox game, and like most of those, it’s got both a critical path of major story quests and a whole lotta side content. Generally speaking, the game’s critical path only accounts for about half of its average runtime, as you’ll also need to engage in the side content and level up in order to stand a fighting chance against the rampant spirits infesting the city.

Ghostwire: Tokyo’s main story is made up of six chapters. That may not sound like much, but most of these chapters have at least two sub-chapters, if not more, taking you from place to place around the city and gradually growing your abilities. With all the combat, travel, and cutscenes, each of these chapters can take around two hours to complete, potentially more depending on your skill.

How Long is Ghostwire: Tokyo?

For my personal playthrough of Ghostwire: Tokyo, back when the game first launched, I clocked in at about 15 hours. That includes both the main story and a decent amount of side activity and collectible engagement. If you were to stick exclusively to the critical path, engaging in the side content only as strictly necessary, you could probably cut that down to around 11 hours.

On the flip side, if you engage more with the side content, including completing side quests, finding collectible items, rescuing lost souls, and liberating districts of the city, you could easily ramp that playtime up to around 20 hours. If you opt for the completionist’s route, going for 100% of all of the game’s collectibles, side activities, and other achievable miscellanies, you’re looking at a total playtime of around 37 hours.

Frankly, compared to how long an actual walking tour of Tokyo would probably take you, a day and a half is a cakewalk. Yeah, there are murderous ghosts everywhere, but hey, no traffic!
