Fortnite Causes Sony To Change Its Opinion On Cross-Play

It could only take a hugely successful game like Fortnite to make Sony rethink their strategy on cross-platform gaming. Just weeks ago, Sony’s CEO was claiming that the company would not endorse cross play between consoles because “PS4 is the best place to play.” Looks like they’ve redacted that statement and went with the popular opinion of the consumer, because Fortnite players will now have cross play available for PS4 with a beta build that launched today.

Sony thanked its valued gaming customers for their patience as they overcame both the technical limitations and the stigma from corporate as proven in the quote above. It took much convincing for this change to be made, but it looks like console wars are coming to an end as everyone will be able to play together, no matter if it’s on the Switch, Xbox, or PS4.

This feature, however, is only going to be implemented on “select third party content,” so don’t expect every game you own or plan on purchasing in the future to have the same functionalities. For all you Fortnite fans out there, I guess we have you to thank for urging Sony to let us play together. Meanwhile, Season 6 of the popular battle royale game is launching tomorrow.
