Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey To Include Playable Female Character

There are certain games that, no matter what the franchise, the protagonist is always a preset gender. For example, all Legend of Zelda titles have you play as Link, the titular male hero. One of those other games is Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed. Except for a single, handheld title, you always were forced to play as a male character. That’s about to change.

Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey, as well as all other Assassin’s Creed games moving forward, will give players the option to play as either a male or female. Fans have been asking for the opportunity to change the gender of the main character for many games now, as it represents the diversity in the gaming population.

Ubisoft Quebec’s Scott Phillips said in a statement that “I think it would be a mistake to limit our players [and] fanbase . . . I don’t know why we would go back.” Ubisoft’s statement is a reassurance to fans that they are willing to listen to feedback. It also shows that the atmosphere and gaming culture is turning to inclusivity.
