Tumblr Hits Dropped By Millions After NSFW Ban

Tumblr’s infamous content ban has caused a continuous bleeding of users and visits.

From 521 million views in December 2018 to a mere 369 million views in February 2019, Tumblr is losing visitors real quick after implementing its site-wide adult content ban late last year, in November 2018. That’s a roughly 30% decrease in visits just over the span of 3 months. Tumblr is losing approximately 10% in visits per month, and no one knows how long this is gonna go.

The trouble started when Apple banned the Tumblr app from its app store in November of last year, citing concerns about child pornography as the reason for the ban.

In accordance with this, Tumblr took to banning all types of adult content from the site. Tumblr defined adult content as “photos, videos or GIFs that show real-life human genitals or female-presenting nipples, and any content—including photos, videos, GIFs and illustrations—that depicts sex acts.” A large amount of content that contained none of these things was removed due to being misidentified by Tumblr’s algorithm, prompting users to complain and leave the site.

Following this, the Tumblr app was made available on the app store again, sans all the adult content.
