The Twitch Backtrack

Twitch.tv has become a global platform for content creators to share and stream their favorite activities to audiences across the world. What started as a strict gaming website diverged into a platform anyone could use to show their viewers what they were partaking in in real time.

One of the best benefits of Twitch was the option to get Twitch Prime. As a bundle with Amazon Prime, Twitch would offer ad-free viewing for Prime subscribers, free subscriptions to one channel every month for the user to use however they wanted, and there was even a discount on pre-ordering games through Amazon when subscribing through Twitch Prime.

While it was a great tactic to expand the network, Twitch is rolling back on a lot of their features in an effort to let their streamers make more money. Twitch Prime will no longer allow you to skip right through ads as it automatically does now. You will only be able to get ad-free viewing through Twitch Turbo from now on. Individual creators can choose to toggle this feature on and off, but it’s almost a surefire that creators will use the ads they play for extra revenue.

Starting October 15th, all of the users of Twitch will have to get accustomed to the changes, as there seems to be no going back from here. Fans are taking shots at Amazon, claiming them to be “greedy” for making this change. However, let’s not forget that Twitch Prime will still offer free games, in-game loot, and exclusive badges.
