Nintendo Switch Online Set for Launch, Direct Rescheduled

Nintendo was supposed to host a Direct event last week to talk about new titles for the Switch and 3DS. Sadly, the event had to be postponed due to the magnitude 6.7 earthquake in Hokkaido. Today, Nintendo announced on their Twitter that they’re ready to give the Direct another go on Thursday, September 13th at 3:00 PM Central (6:00 PM Eastern). This isn’t that surprising, since the guy who leaked the date of direct last week leaked the new one yesterday.

What is surprising is that, in a double announcement with the previous one, Nintendo revealed the official start date of the Switch Online service. Service will be beginning next Tuesday, September 18th. You can buy a subscription on the eShop, on Nintendo’s website, or in physical card form at retailers like Best Buy and Gamestop. A seven-day trial will be available for download on the eShop when service starts. Though, to be honest, it’s only $20 for an entire year of service, so I’ll probably just cough up and get it over with. Anyway, more details will be given about the service during the Direct tomorrow, so stay tuned to Nintendo’s YouTube channel for the stream.
