Who needs cable anymore?

According to a report from Business Insider, more and more viewers are starting to become attracted to internet subscriptions from OTT (over-the-top) companies, or companies that offer streaming services to internet users as a standalone product.

This certainly comes as no surprise, as the decline in traditional television cable subscriptions has already been going on these last few years. More people are no longer sitting in front of their TV to watch scheduled shows. Instead, they prefer to stream movies and shows from the internet instead, giving them a much greater degree of freedom in their viewing preferences.

In this fast-paced world, internet streaming is also much easier for people who are on-the-go, since they can easily hit pause on a specific video and come back to it later once they have more time, which is something that can’t be done with traditional media.

Currently, some of the most popular OTT companies to offer internet subscriptions are Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon. Analysts are already expecting that these companies, among others, will drive the industry revenue up to about $22 billion sometime this year.
