‘Dragon Quest XI S’ Coming to Switch in 2019

When Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age was first announced back in 2015, it was intended for release on 3DS, Playstation 4, and the at-the-time unnamed Nintendo Switch. The 3DS and PS4 versions were released in July of 2017 in Japan, but the 3DS version was never localized. In lieu, the west received a PC port alongside the PS4 version for the worldwide release in September of 2018. The game has enjoyed praise and success since its worldwide release, but one nagging question remains: where’s the Switch version?

On December 23rd, a trailer was finally released by Square Enix for the Switch port of the game, dubbed Dragon Quest XI S. Interestingly, despite the recent Dragon Quest games having full English dubs for their dialogue in their western releases, there is usually no dialogue at all for the Japanese versions. This has changed for the first time, as the trailer for XI S showcased a full Japanese voice cast for the game’s initial release. Hey, they made an entire localization script, they might as well use it.

According to the trailer, the game will release in Japan some time in 2019. No word yet on a western release, but as Square Enix has not yet deconfirmed its existence, it is probably a safe bet we’ll get it soon after.
