Chinese Court Rules in Favor of Qualcomm Over Apple Dispute

The bad blood between Qualcomm and Apple has resulted in a legal war spanning all across the world. Qualcomm has won a major battle against Apple recently, after a Chinese court ruled in favor of them in their dispute.

Qualcomm has alleged that Apple violated two of their patents on numerous older models of iPhone. The Fuzhou Intermediate People’s Court in China investigated the allegations, and found them to be accurate, and has made a preliminary order to ban the importing and sales of the iPhone models in violation of Qualcomm’s patents. This ban affects every iPhone from the 6S to the iPhone X. Apple’s latest models, the XS, XS Max, and XR, were not affected by this decision, but that’s not as comforting as you might think.

The XS, XS Max, and the XR have all been very poorly received. iPhone sales this year have been quite underwhelming, so Apple being left with only their least popular iPhone models to sell in China puts them in a hard spot. Apple immediately plans to file for appeal and hopes to overturn the Chinese court’s decision.
