Apple Planning Their Own Budget TV Streaming Dongle

The main reason Apple TV is far less appealing when compared to competitors is the fact that Apple TV costs two to four times as much as TV dongles such as the Roku Streaming Stick, Google Chromecast, or Amazon Fire TV Stick. Apple has a lot of original content well on the way in 2019 with its own TV subscription service, and an insider report claims that the company may be looking into developing their own TV dongle as an alternative to their Apple TV.

If this is in fact true, then it would be a wise move on Apple’s end. Right now, AppleTV is very similar to Apple’s latest iPhone models: the XS, XS Max, and XR. Is it a bad service? No. However, it doesn’t offer enough to warrant the price, and most people will just stick to much cheaper TV dongles.

Apple has brought in some top A-lister actors and actresses for their upcoming original content, such as Jennifer Aniston and Steve Carell, and some of these thespians are being paid a pretty penny; as much as $1 million per episode. If Apple wants to make a healthy return on their investment, then they are going to need to vastly expand their consumer base. Providing their own TV dongle would be a great way to entice potential consumers into subscribing to their upcoming TV subscription service.

Despite this report, many are convinced that Apple’s TV dongle will still be more expensive than the competition since Apple doesn’t really do “cheap,” but a double-digit priced alternative to AppleTV will go a long way to giving Apple an entry into the streaming market.
