Tinder Will Launch Lite Version In Emerging Markets

No data? No problem.

Currently the top grossing company in Apple’s iOS store, popular dating service Tinder is hoping to expand into emerging markets by releasing a lightweight version of its hit app.

Called ‘Tinder Lite,’ this new app is meant to provide access to those markets where data access is limited or difficult. Such markets include those in Southeast Asia, where the majority are third-world countries and citizens don’t have nationwide access to free internet and don’t have as much disposable income to buy phones with better specs and more storage.

To combat these problems, Match Group, the company behind Tinder, is planning to develop an app that will not require as much storage space and data to run as the original version of the app. It will have to forgo some of the features found in the original app though, in order to cut down on the size. Nevertheless, the core feature, which consists of swipes and matches, will still be included. Other than this, Match Group did not reveal any other details.

In an interview, the company explained the reason why it chose SEA to release this new app. “This area has more than a dozen high-density cities with over a million people, and more young people are moving to large cities. These are really important factors that make the need for our app high.”

CEO Mandy Ginsberg adds, “We are excited about the Tinder Lite app that will be coming soon. It’s a big step forward addressing the needs of consumers there.”
