Levi’s Smart Jacket Now Prevents Phone Loss

In October of last year, clothing manufacturer Levi’s released a special lacquered jacket. What’s so special about a jacket, you ask? The jacket was created as part of a tag-team effort between Levi’s and Google to be a commercially viable smart jacket. In other words, it’s a jacket that links up to your phone via some hidden tech and a little touch button on the cuff. Neat.

Since the jacket’s release, its firmware has received a couple of updates enabling features like music and map control and ride-sharing alerts. A new update released today, though, contains what may be the jacket’s most practical feature (which is something it really needed, if early reviews of it are to be believed). The new feature is called “Always Together.” When the bluetooth dongle in the jacket’s cuff detects its paired phone leaving its connection range, it will automatically start vibrating and flashing to let you know you just left your phone on the kitchen counter. The jacket previously had a manual version of this feature that required specific activation, but this is a bit more convenient.

The jacket usually retails around $350, though, so I guess you need to look deep inside yourself and ask “how often do I leave my phone lying around?”
