Healthcare Services Using Voice Recognition in Diagnosis

A patient’s emotional state can greatly affect treatments.

With more and more pieces of technology being voice activated these days, it is no wonder that we’d develop new ways of using it to our advantage. Amazon is working on a way to detect the emotional state of people by developing a wearable emotion-sensing device. The device detects the voice of the person wearing it and can discern changes in their emotional state.

Huge companies want to help find ways to use voice recognition to alert medical professionals of potential health problems. Companies such as Google, Amazon, Apple, and Microsoft are investing billions of dollars to create this technology. Each of these companies want to the be first to take control of this new market.

The issue that all these companies will need to work around is HIPPA. HIPPA is the protection of our health rights and the dissemination of any information to the public. Once they can develop a program to keep all this information private, they will be able to proceed with future steps.

They hope to be able to have voice recognition devices available to schedule appointments at nearby urgent care centers. No matter where you are, you will be able to get access to a local doctor. They are also hoping to be able to make health care services more productive while being in a hospital setting. Their hopes are that patients will be able to talk into a Google or Alexa device in which the nurse would be able to directly interact with the patient. The goal would be to help a larger population of patients at one time.

The possibilities are endless for what voice recognition will be able to do in the future. These companies just need to work out a privacy method to protect the consumers. People will be leery of being snooped on, which is a plausible concern. Eventually, they will find a find a way to work through some of these problems and we will be amazed at how our voices will help us get the medical care that we need.
