Don’t worry, it’ll only be scary the first few times.

Gone are the days of stressful deliveries and long waiting times, thanks to all the innovations in the last few decades. But of course, that still isn’t enough. Ford is looking to improve the state of delivery today with its newest invention: two-legged robots which can deliver parcels straight to your doorstep.

The robots, designed in partnership with Agility Robotics, are still currently in the testing stage. Ford is still trying to see if they can already do well enough to be left on their own. They are brought to the delivery area by a driverless autonomous car and left to do the delivery by themselves. Each robot has its own camera and a Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) sensor to help it reach the doorstep of the recipient safely and accident-free.

So far, the robots are able to walk, climb up and down the stairs, and carry packages that are up less than 18 kilos, all on their own. If needed, the robots can also be folded tightly in order to save space and easily store them away while traveling a distance.

The next step, according to Ford, is to program the robots to be able to communicate with each other and with the delivery cars, in order to make the entire process completely autonomous.
