Facebook Requires ‘Unified’ Email Addresses For All Employees

In case you needed a reminder of who owns your stuff.

An exclusive report by Business Insider on Thursday revealed that Facebook now requires all its employees to have a @fb.com email address, regardless if they’re working on the main Facebook platform or other Facebook-owned platforms such as Instagram, WhatsApp, and Oculus.

In an interview with Antonio Lucio, Facebook’s global chief marketing officer, he explained that the reason for this change is Facebook’s goal to “unify” all of its owned platforms. The company is also hoping that by requiring the use of just one email address extension, users will recognize Facebook-owned sites better.

“We want to show more clearly that all these apps belong to the same family,” Lucio said at the Cannes Film Festival in France.

Previously, platforms owned by Facebook had their own email addresses pertaining to their own sites. Instagram employees had @instagram.com, Whatsapp employees had @whatsapp.com, while Oculus employees had @oculus.com email addresses.
