You think one fly in your room is annoying? Try a few hundred.

A village in Russia’s Sverdlovsk region recently received an extraordinarily number of flies. We are talking thousands of flies. There were so many flies that Stephen King could have written a novel directly from the sights of the tiny insects.

A Russian farmer recently fertilized his field with chicken feces and it set off a whirlwind of fly attraction. Piles upon piles of flies were found dead in people’s houses across the village. Understandably, people were in shock and awe over the fly takeover.

So, what gives? It is believed that the fertilizer contained millions of fly eggs. Imagine the amount of fertilizer that the farmer used and multiply that by millions of fly eggs and you have a scene only believable in a movie. These flies have been taking refuge on people’s homes and folks that live in this village are constantly having to sweep up and fill buckets upon buckets of dead and nearly dead flies.

The town has been using pesticides to try to control the swarm of flies, but the problem is that flies tend to breed very quickly, so this is only a temporary fix. They will get a large number of flies under control, but then the new batch of flies will soon take flight and the process will start over again.

The concern for members of the village is the potential diseases that the flies could be carrying with them. These flies could potentially make the village extremely unhealthy and lead to a domino effect on surrounding towns. The concern also extends to the amount of chemicals that are being used to control the problem. Having chemicals constantly being sprayed in the air to kill the flies is not going to be beneficial in the long term.

Town officials continue to do everything they can to curb the fly infestation that has taken over the village. Local authorities are trying to see if they can bring criminal charges against the farmer who used the chicken poop. But, until they can get this infestation under control, the health and safety of all the villagers needs to be addressed.
