40 Million Xbox One Consoles Sold Worldwide

Microsoft’s eighth generation console has surpassed the 40 million mark in terms of worldwide sales. This achievement comes roughly 5 years after the release of the console. This puts the Xbox One at number 14 on the list of best-selling consoles of all time. The majority of these sales are home-grown, with around 22.5 million consoles sold in the U.S.

The Xbox One is still far behind its Sony competitor the PlayStation 4, which currently sits at 6th best-selling console of all time with more than 86 million units sold worldwide, but 40 million is still a notable achievement. Considering the fact that the eighth generation of consoles is the fastest-selling generation in video game history so far, 40 million is nothing to sneeze at.

The Xbox One gets cheaper and cheaper during Black Friday and the holidays with every passing year, making it more and more accessible. With the ninth generation of consoles around the corner, it will be interesting to see how many more Xbox One units will be sold before sales of the console begin to stagnate to the point where they are barely work tracking anymore. Few details on Microsoft’s next console have been revealed, though, so for now, the Xbox One maintains its pace.
