What’s Up With WhatsApp?

WhatsApp is getting a facelift, announced Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg at the latest F8 conference. WhatsApp has acted as a great inter-connective social platform that excels extremely well for cross-country contact, and now it’s getting more features to help it compete with other social media platforms.

The first of these new features is group video calling, similar to the likes of Snapchat and HouseParty. While the current connection limits four users, it allows Android and iOS users to get their own FaceTime feature for cross-platform connectivity. Most mobile users are turning away from platforms like Skype since video chat is now integrated into apps they already use regularly.

Additionally, more Facebook and Instagram compatibility was integrated by the parent company, making it so that you can use Facebook stickers and Instagram video on WhatsApp. It seems as though Zuckerberg wants to unify all the features of each platform so they feel similar to users.

Lastly, group administration functions have been added to the software. As group admin, you will have the power to revoke rights from others in the group and to change the group name/subject and other powerful features. This way, the creator of a group can keep its contents in tact.

Personally, I do not use WhatsApp, but these additional features seem like they could make it a formidable competitor for mobile contacts and I know many people who prefer to use WhatsApp over Facebook Messenger or other alternatives.
