Rather than a combatant, Ditto’s role in Pokemon games has always been as a conduit for Pokemon breeding. Since Ditto can breed with any other non-legendary Pokemon in the game, a good Ditto is vital for raising the best possible Pokemon. If you want an especially good Ditto for this purpose, you’ll want to participate in the next Tera Raid event. Here’s what you need to know about the Ditto Tera Raid in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Ditto Tera Raid Guide

The seventh Tera Raid event for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet will be a five-star Raid headed by a Ditto with a randomized Tera Type. As with all Tera Raids, successfully defeating this Ditto will give you the opportunity to catch it yourself. Now, you may be wondering, “why would I want to put in the effort to catch a Ditto in a Tera Raid when I can go find one right outside Medali?” Well, I’ll tell you why: the Ditto in this Tera Raid is confirmed to have a set of at least five, possibly six, perfect Individual Values, or IVs. If you breed Pokemon with this Ditto, you have a much greater chance of getting Egg Pokemon with perfect stats themselves.

The Ditto Tera Raid is scheduled to run from April 7th 2023 to April 9th, at the same time as the seven-star Samurott Raid encore. Since it’s only a five-star raid rather than a seven-star, there are no special prerequisites for entering it. You’ll be able to find it on your map by looking for glowing Tera Raid symbols.

How to Beat Ditto Tera Raid

Beyond the fact that it’s Terastalized, the Tera Raid Ditto fights like a regular Ditto does. In other words, the only move it knows is Transform, which it will use to mimic one of the Pokemon in the Raid Battle, including its stats and moves. This may sound difficult to counter, but as it so happens, Dittos fought in Tera Raids have a very particular weakness: they only transform into the host player’s Pokemon.

It doesn’t matter what your teammates bring to the table here because the Ditto will always copy the Pokemon you bring to the fight (assuming you’re the host). This is a very easily-exploitable quirk, as you can bring in a weak Pokemon, let the Ditto copy it, and have the rest of your team wail on it while you sit back and relax. For this purpose, it’s best to employ a Pokemon with generally low stats and no offensive abilities. Some of our suggestions include:

  • A Magikarp with Splash
  • A Sinistea with Shell Smash
  • A Sunkern with Helping Hand or Sunny Day
  • A Wiglett with Rain Dance

As for the rest of your team, it honestly doesn’t really matter. Assuming you bring a weak Pokemon to the party and everyone else is packing high-level, type-advantaged Pokemon, then in all likelihood, this Raid Battle won’t last longer than a couple of minutes. Afterward, you can catch the Ditto and get right to work breeding those perfect IV Pokemon. Since this isn’t a special event, you can also catch multiple Dittos with perfect IVs if you feel so inclined. Remember to send a few out into Surprise Trade for those who weren’t able to participate in the Raid!
