While the main goal of Minecraft has always been to make your fun, there’s long been the glimmer of story and setting potential hiding just beneath the surface. Several experimental forrays into Minecraft storytelling have been made in the past, such as Minecraft: Story Mode in 2015, but the latest endeavor aims to take things in a more strategic direction. Here’s what you need to know about Minecraft Legends, including its release date.
Minecraft Legends Release Date and Details
Minecraft Legends is a new Minecraft spin-off game from Mojang and Xbox Game Studios, with additional help from Blackbird Interactive. Rather than a creative sandbox game like Minecraft proper, Minecraft Legends is billed as an action strategy game. In this game, you’ll travel across the Minecraft Overworld, visiting its various biomes and protecting Villagers from an invasion of Piglins from the Nether, as well as the usual Minecraft troublemakers like Zombies, Skeletons, and Creepers.
You can ride right into the thick of things atop your trusty horse, swinging your sword to punish monsters, while also amassing an army of allies and minions to follow behind you and attack on your command. You can even craft your own home base to house your blossoming army, and pit that base against other players in online multiplayer.
Minecraft Legends Release Date, Platforms, and Price

Again, not unlike the Minecraft we know and love, Minecraft Legends will be available on just about any and every platform you can think of, including:
- Xbox One
- Xbox Series X/S
- PlayStation 4
- PlayStation 5
- Nintendo Switch
- PC (Steam or Microsoft Store)
The game will be launching simultaneously across all supported platforms on April 18, 2023. Additionally, Minecraft Legends will be available on day one for all subscribers to both Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass. If you have a Game Pass subscription, you can play the game at launch for no charge. Otherwise, pre-orders are open on all platforms for $39.99 for the standard version or $49.99 for the Deluxe Edition. The Deluxe Edition includes the Deluxe Skin Pack DLC, which adds a new hero skin and four mount skins, plus an additional mount skin to be made available at a later date.
