Hulu now has a new live TV option, and the company has jumped from having a little less than 500,000 users at the beginning of 2018 to a total of almost 2 million users by the end of the year.
The new live TV service is most likely the main reason, experts are pointing out. Before, not everyone interested in certain TV services could avail them since these types of services mostly depended on local availability by region. With the new live TV option though, people are starting to tune in more using their internet connection instead of their cable hookup.
The success isn’t something exclusive to Hulu, however, though it’s the one whose subscriber base spiked up the most. Fellow streaming service YouTube TV also gained traction this year, jumping from 300,000 to more than a million subscribers in the span of a few months.
At the same time, this also doesn’t mean that everyone is seeing success. AT&T’s DirectTV Now is unfortunately suffering from a 14% drop in subscriber count after it raised prices in the last quarter of 2018.
So far, Hulu is one of the most subscribed TV streaming services, second only to Sling TV which ended 2018 with more than 2.4 million subscribers.
