Self-Driving Cars are Right Around the Corner

Autonomous technology is getting a lot of screen time this year, it seems. Companies from all over have been trying to speed up their autonomous technology development, in the form of autonomous robots and more popularly, self-driving cars.

According to a report from Business Insider, 2019 is going to be the year that self-driving cars will be launched, at least in the US. Waymo, Uber, and General Motors are all planning to deploy their respective fleets in different cities all throughout the country. These fleets will be used to transport passengers, acting as a self-driving taxi service.

For business owners, the main benefit of having this kind of setup is the minimal labor cost. Without a driver to pay, there will be fewer expenses, which could mean lower prices. This would be a huge benefit to commuters, at least compared to Lyft or Uber since these new taxi services will not require a driver. Commuting via autonomous taxis may even be cheaper than owning and driving your own private vehicle in the future.

There are no final launch dates as of now from any of these companies, but they are nonetheless expected to release the fleets sometime before this year ends.
