Guess The Average Salary of Nintendo Employees In Japan

The average annual salary in Tokyo, Japan may be around $35,000 for a standard 40-hour workweek, but can you guess the average salary of Nintendo employees?

If you guessed $80,000 for a less then 40-hour-workweek, then you guessed right.

In a recruitment page found by Daniel Ahmad of Niko Partners, it was revealed that Nintendo of Japan pays its 2,271 employees an average of around $80,600 per year. And it doesn’t stop there. The video game giant also gives commuter benefits to its employees, in addition to twice-a-year bonuses and annual pay raises.

Interested in applying? It gets even better. Surprisingly, Nintendo employees also tend to work for shorter hours as compared to typical employees in Japan. The average workday at Nintendo is only about 7 hours and 45 minutes, and that comes with an hour break, too. Main office employees start the day at around 8:45 in the morning while developers actually start working at 9:30. This is a surprise, considering that many other video game companies are known for the “crunch” culture, which means long hours for potentially long periods of time.

Nintendo’s headquarters are situated in Kyoto prefecture, but Nintendo also has an office in Tokyo. The company is planning to recruit 81 new college graduates this year, so if you’re interested (and speak good Japanese), head onto Nintendo’s recruitment page right now.
