Alexa Powering New Games with the Sound of Your Voice

In addition to the millions of other things Alexa can do, she is now able to help us play games just by listening to the sounds of our voice.

At the annual Voice Summit this past week, Amazon’s “chief evangelist” for Alexa and Echo stated that the company has invested in Skill Flow Builder, a tool designed to fuel voice powered games. Alexa has recently seen a 160% increase in game functionality over the past year.

The goal is to help make the games more communal. It allows everyone to be in the same room playing through a voice experience together. Ideally, this can continuously increase the role of voice assistants in people’s lives. Amazon is hoping that Alexa hold meaningful conversations with her audience.

The company is looking to build off the game Kids Court, in which players settle a dispute between themselves with the help of Alexa. Alexa is the neutral entity that hears both sides and makes a decision. The kids trust that it is a non-biased voice coming into play and not one that is from their parents.

Amazon hopes that by activating this new feature in Alexa, it will help to increase the ability for young people to hold a conversation. Conversation in person is very different than it is with a phone or through a screen, after all.
