Goodbye to Google Reader

Google has announced in the market that Google Reader will be closed down by first of July. Majority of the people are mourning over the thought that Google Reader will no longer be available in the market because the company has cited that its usage has declined by significant portion in the last few months. The CEO of the company, Larry Page, has been following the strategy of ‘spring cleaning’ throughout all seasons so that it can move ahead with narrow focus. Google Reader is the recent addition in the latest closure list of the company’s products.

Reason for closure of Google Reader
It is reported that the closure is not because of the company’s culture but the main reason is the bigger priorities that are set by the company’s management team. It is trying to orient itself in a better way so that it can save itself from getting into hot waters as it has experienced huge amount of losses in the last few inventions along with significant number of compliance issues such as privacy ones.

Revamping the team structure
It has ensured that every team has a dedicated group of people that is competent to deal with the privacy and compliance issues. The company has ensured that it hires reliable experts, policy makers and lawyers who will make sure that all business activities are conducted within the ethical boundaries. Previously, Google did not have any expert such as manager for product Development or a competent engineer who can take the responsibility of effective development and launch of Google Reader and it even does not want to invest more in staff and infrastructure; as a result, the product is being killed. Google Reader was deeply integrated into the Google Apps so that it can spin it off and ensure that it is sold like Google did in the previous year with the SketchUp 3-D modeling software. The circumstance of this concern is the incompliance with the privacy issues that have been heavily faced by the company. Because of significant amount of errors and ineffective coordination, the company encountered problems related to the privacy issues.

Google penalties
Google has been forced to pay $7 million for settlement with the US attorney general over its many years pending international ‘Street View Wi-Fi’ incident; it even agreed to police the employees. Even in the last summer, Google had to pay $22.5 million when it broke the terms and condition of the US Federal Trade Commission agreement as it informed the users about the privacy polities when it was using a strategy for installing the ad cookies for the Apple’s users about the Web Browser ‘Safari’. Even in the ‘Wi-Spy’ case, Google had to disclose that its engineer devised the Drive-by plan for collecting the data about user from Wi-Fi networks that were unsecured and it had to pass the authorized processes of approval. Google was trying to keep a track of the users when they were logged into Google+ in the ‘Safari bypass’ case. It has been reported that Google Reader is being closed because either its policies have become obsolete or the RSS subscription list has been exposed.
