Don’t Feel Blues, It’s Just News

I could make some kind of snappy comment about news and whatnot, but I’m guessing you’re not here for that. You’re here for the news. Which is kind of obvious, now that I think about it, but hey, news needs a lead-in.

Jamie Dimon, CEO of JPMorgan Chase, was recently forced to undergo emergency heart surgery after experiencing, according to CNN, “acute aortic dissection.” In other words, there was a tear in the inner lining of his aorta, most definitely a condition that requires surgery.

According to a letter sent out by JPMorgan Chase’s co-COOs Gordon Smith and Daniel Pinto to staff, Dimon is currently doing fine and resting in the hospital.

“The good news is that it was caught early and the surgery was successful,” Pinto and Smith explained. “He is awake, alert and recovering well.”

This is not the first time concerns have been raised about Dimon’s health. Back in 2014, he received surgery for throat cancer. In an interview after this event, Dimon stated that he was going to begin living more “deliberately.”

“Everyone knows they’re going to die, but at one point it’s right here and you realize it’s true and it’s true maybe sooner than you think,” Dimon said. “And so it’s nice to end every day by saying, ‘That was a good day.’ Every meeting, that was a good meeting. Every week, that was a good week.”
