Beermkr, the IoT Brewery

People love to make their own home brewed beer. You can fine-tune the taste, the bite, the fizz, and more. But home brewing is a long and involved process, and has a steep learning curve. A new crowdfunded device seeks to remove some of the guesswork from the beer-crafting process.

The Beermkr is the first internet-of-things home brewing device. Sitting on your kitchen counter in the form of an innocuous box, this little doodad can start a full batch of beer in a simple, five-minute process. Just throw your starter ingredients into the top, add some water, and attach the special collection bag. Then just push a button and go on your merry way. The Beermkr connects to your phone via wi-fi and automatically sends you notifications about how far along the brewing process is and when it’s time to add yeast and hops. One week later, you’ve got fresh beer, and the bag can be removed and loaded into the fridge-portable keg and tap. Best of all, most of the parts are self-sanitizing, aside from the brew chamber and yeast collection bin, which can just be put in the dishwasher. No more sanitizing a hundred different pots and pans.

The device launched with a Kickstarter on September 20th with a goal of $100,000. At the end of the campaign, it raised a total of $398,276.
