‘Alan Wake’ Resolves Musical Copyrights to Return

2012 cult-classic horror-action game Alan Wake was removed from digital storefronts in May of 2017. This was due to a licensing snafu between the game’s developer, Remedy Entertainment, and the various music publishers that held the rights to the songs that appeared in the game. After one last massive sale, the game was delisted, seemingly never to return. Note the “seemingly.”

As of October 25th, ‘Alan Wake’ has made a surprise return to Steam, the Humble Store, and GOG, and is now available for PC purchases once again. On their Twitter, Remedy explained that this was thanks to a generous boon from the game’s primary publisher, Microsoft, who renegotiated the musical rights so the game could resume selling.

To celebrate its return, all three stores have the game at an 80% discount, knocking it down to a paltry $3 ($4 for the collector’s edition with the bonus stuff). There has not been any word yet as to whether or not the game will return to the Xbox 360’s Marketplace, but players are optimistic that it will show itself soon enough. No matter how you play it, is definitely a good time to do so, considering the recent announcement that the game would be receiving the TV series treatment.
