Samsung Weighing Galaxy Fold Pre-Order Cancellations

Samsung miiight have jumped the gun on this one.

In a rather surprising turn of events, Samsung may actually start canceling all pre-orders of its first foldable smartphone, the $2,000 Samsung Galaxy Fold, after the whole fiasco involving the device’s durability issues even before it was released to the public.

Samsung had been gearing up for a late April release, specifically April 26 for the US and a week later for UK and the rest of Europe, for its foldable device. Unfortunately, early reviewers discovered that the Galaxy Fold still had plenty of issues that were just plain unacceptable, especially for a premium smartphone.

Due to this, Samsung was forced to delay Galaxy Fold’s release, even though pre-orders for the phone were already coming in. However, in an email sent to pre-order customers earlier today, Samsung says that it is planning on postponing the release to an indefinite date if the Galaxy Fold is still not ready for release by the end of the month.

The email reads as follows:

“Thank you for your patience in waiting for the launch and shipment of your pre-ordered Galaxy Fold. As promised in our email to you on April 22nd, we’re writing with an update on your order’s anticipated ship date.”

“We are making progress in enhancing the Galaxy Fold to make sure it measures up to the high standards we know you expect from us. This means that we cannot confirm the anticipated ship date yet. We’ll update you with more specific shipping information in the coming weeks.”

“As a reminder, your pre-order guarantees your place in the queue for this innovative technology. You will not be charged until your order ships. If you don’t want to wait, you may cancel your order at Samsung.com at any time before it has shipped. If we do not hear from you and we have not shipped by May 31st your order will be cancelled automatically.”

“If you do not want your order automatically canceled on May 31st you may request that we keep your order and fulfill it later. If you do request that we keep your order and fill it later, you still have the right to cancel the order at any time before we ship it to you.”

It seems like those who were looking forward to Samsung’s foldable device have no choice but to get back to the waiting game for now.
