Netflix Plans 47 New Stand-Up Specials

In addition to their original content, Netflix is focusing heavily on stand-up comedy specials. The streaming service has been shelling out quite a bit to have the best comedy specials on deck, with the amount totaling hundreds of millions of dollars. Apparently the investments are paying off, because Netflix plans to release 47 new stand-up specials on New Year’s Day.

At least three new specials for every territory Netflix services will be released on January 1st, 2019. That’s Australia, India, Germany, and more. Based on Forbes’ list of highest-paid comedians, the majority of notable stand-up performers have had at least one Netflix special in the last year. Ricky Gervais made a total of $40 million dollars from two specials. Legendary comedian Chris Rock made $40 million dollars for two specials as well. Returning comedian Dave Chappelle netted $60 million dollars for three comedy specials, and Jerry Seinfeld was paid a whopping $100 million for the rights to stream his hit ‘Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee’, as well as two stand-up specials.
