Last year’s Cult of the Lamb was a delightfully dark little experience combining a roguelite dungeon-crawler with a farming and town simulator. Taking the role of a demonically-empowered lamb recruiting cultists for an ancient god (and eventually from an ancient god) while keeping them all happy, healthy, and indoctrinated made for a surprisingly addicting gameplay loop, though it was a bit on the short side. Luckily, Massive Monster has released a new update for Cult of the Lamb, featuring a sizable amount of post-game content and many quality-of-life improvements.

Cult of the Lamb Update Adds Post-Game, New Features

Relics of the Old Faith is a new update for Cult of the Lamb, available now on PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5. To quickly clarify, it’s not a DLC. Everyone who owned Cult of the Lamb previously or buys it going forward will receive the Relics of the Old Faith update completely free of charge.

The main draw of this new update is the post-game content. Where the original game simply stalled out after defeating the final boss, you’ll now be confronted with remixed versions of the game’s four main dungeons, populated by more powerful enemies and bosses. Clearing these tougher dungeons will reward you with items you can redeem with your new nameless god benefactor for valuable items like necklaces, follower forms, and special Doctrine tablets you can use to proclaim Doctrines you previously skipped. If you can clear the dungeons entirely, you’ll even get to recruit the four Bishops of the Old Faith to your cult.

Gameplay Additions and Changes

While you’re out on your crusades, you’ll encounter enemies with new mechanics like sturdy shields you need to break and new kinds of traps. You’re not unequipped to handle these things, though; you can now uncover Relics throughout the land, each with its own special effect that you can activate after damaging enemies. Also, you can unlock new heavy attacks for your various weapons, which can be activated with Fervor. If you want some extra challenge, you can try the new Boss Rush and Dungeon Gauntlet modes, or if you’re feeling spicy, you can start a new save file with Permadeath enabled. Die once, and your whole save is kaput.

Over on the cult-building side of things, there are new resources you can unlock and build for your cult. You can assign a follower to a Kitchen to have them cook for everyone while you’re away, store multiple dead bodies in larger Crypts, and save space by building Shared Shelters for multiple followers. There are also new questlines to uncover and complete in both the nearby lands and during crusades, and for a little extra fun, there’s even a Photo Mode. If you’ve found the game a bit too hard to manage, the devs have also added new accessibility options like font changes and slowed cult time while crusading.

Again, Relics of the Old Faith is available now for all current and future owners of Cult of the Lamb. Whether you beat the game already and want a reason to pick it back up or are starting for the first time, there’s tons more to experience in this adorably evil game.
