Amazon’s cloud streaming service is now publicly available.

Back in fall of 2020, Amazon announced Amazon Luna, a cloud-based video game streaming service in a similar vein to Google Stadia. Following that announcement, users could try the service out during its developmental early access period, but could only get in with an invitation provided to a select few. After two years in early access, however, Amazon Luna is finally ready to release to the general public.

Amazon Luna has launched in full, and the base tier of the service is free to access for all Amazon Prime subscribers. Regular users can play a handful of games for free by streaming them through the Luna service, with current offerings including Phogs and Devil May Cry 5. The majority of Luna’s catalog will be behind Luna+, an additional tier that costs $9.99. There are also several “channels” with games that cater to specific audiences, such as a Family channel and a Retro channel, as well as company channels for games made by companies like Ubisoft and Jackbox.

As opposed to Stadia, where users buy the games they want piecemeal, Luna users can play any game available in the Luna library as long as they are subscribed, more in line with Xbox Game Pass. Luna also features built-in integration with Twitch streaming and Fire TVs, and if you don’t want to purchase Amazon’s official Luna controller, you can pair a smartphone to use as a controller.
