Getting old stinks, but only as much as you let it.

Nobody ever wants to think about getting older, but it is something that is going to happen to everyone. But, approaching old age with a positive attitude can help you potentially live a longer life.

Think about how you feel when you are doing something that you like. You tend to forget any problems, issues, or worries that you may have in your life. When you are participating in something you don’t like, it tends to make you think of all the negative things in your life, like growing old and all the pains that your body is going through.

Our internalized attitudes about getting older affects us physically. A recent study showed that exposing older people to positive age-related words will have a positive impact on their lives. A more positive attitude towards aging will help improve older people’s memory, balance, speed, and the will to live.

There are many words that can be related to growing old with a negative connotation. When aging people hear these words, it lowers their moods and makes them feel as if the words are true. Changing the words to a more positive spin can help the mental capacity of aging people.

The words need to be used in a casual manner, almost subliminally, because if it is done too explicitly, aging people will feel that the words are being forced on them. The word choice seemed to be working well and even showed an increase in workout programs. The aging adults started feeling better and more confident about themselves.

The brain is a powerful tool that we all have. If you train the mind to feel and think one way, it will allow the rest of your body to respond in a similar fashion.
