Why Should You Build Your Own Computer?

While most PCs and laptops available on the market are more than adequate for most home and business users, a true computing enthusiast needs a little bit more and sometimes, even a custom-computer business won’t be able to offer the high degree of personalization that a real aficionado wants.    In many cases building your own computer, although more difficult than buying a ready-made one, is better  in that you get the exact computer you want, you can make it for less money, and you get a feeling of satisfaction from making it yourself and you learn a few things about science on the way. The first reason you should try to build your own computer is that you will be able to add or omit any feature you wish.  For example, if you’re going to be gaming, you may want to build something with more RAM, install a high-end graphics card, and install powerful CPUs; a student might who will only be using the internet may want to build something with not much memory available on the hard drive.   Building your own computer makes every component of a PC customizable; low-end, high-end, mid-grade, new or used items can be used; it all depends on your planned computer usage.

The second reason building a computer at home is a good idea is that of budget.  Along with getting exactly the computer you want, in general terms assembling a PC yourself at home is usually less expensive than buying one that’s all set to go out of the box.  Because you don’t pay for the labour involved, the savings can really add up, especially if you start with a barebones computer kit.   Although each different component installed with have a different warranty and each item will probably come from a different company causing some headaches if something goes wrong, many home computer builders feel it is only a minor inconvenience when considered the large sums of money that can be saved. The third reason, along with getting the perfect computer for a cheaper price, is the feeling of satisfaction you’ll get after successfully making your own PC from scratch.  Most people get happy when a simple cake they’ve made turns out nicely; imagine the tremendous amount of confidence you’ll have in your capabilities if you make a computer!  PC building is a terrific hobby and the confidence earned can eventually help you land a great job in the IT industry.

The last reason why you should build your own computer is the knowledge you’ll acquire along the way.  Textbooks are fine and dandy in school, but when we do a hands-on project and see how those physics, electronic and science theories work in real life, we become eager to learn more.  Making your own computer helps bring science, electronics, and math to life in an exciting way and makes learning a rewarding experience with practical applications. With some basic electronics knowledge, a bit of science and a dash of math, anyone can learn how to make their own PC if some effort is made.  The benefits are many, and almost all those who have built their own computer have said its well worth the time and is an incredible experience.
