President Trump Considering Chinese Tech Ban

The news has been bubbling with the potential danger that Chinese companies like Huawei and ZTE pose to the security of the nation. Everyone from senators to federal agencies like the FBI, CIA, and NSA have warned against using Chinese tech products.

The Pentagon has banned the purchase and usage of smartphones from Huawei and ZTE on military bases worldwide. Huawei has been accused by many of being an arm of the Chinese government. Not helping, is the fact that founder of Huawei is a former top ranking Chinese military officer. Back in August, President Trump signed a defense policy bill that banned government and government contractor purchase and usage of tech from companies like Huawei and ZTE. And now, he may be taking it a step further.

Rumors are abound that President Trump may issue an executive order that would ban the purchase of technology from Huawei and ZTE sometime early next year. These rumors come in the aftermath of the chargings of Zhu Hua and Zhang Shillong, two Chinese nationals who stand accused of hacking and stealing sensitive data from Western nations for years. Both individuals are members of the Chinese hacker group known as APT10 which has ties to the Chinese government. If these charges are proven to be true, it would be a huge and blatant breach of the agreement made between former President Barack Obama and Chinese President Xi Jinping that the two nations would not commit cyber crimes against one another.

America isn’t the only one concerned by China. The UK, Australia, New Zealand, and other Western nations have begun banning Huawei and ZTE from having any part in their 5G network building efforts. Huawei and ZTE could very well see themselves on an international 5G blacklist once 2019 hits.
