Amazon Alexa Crashed on Christmas in Europe

The widely popular smart speakers bit off more than it could chew this holiday season, as many users in Europe reported that their Alexa devices were not functioning properly on Christmas Day. Reports have come in that the massive amount of voice requests from users caused Amazon Alexa’s servers to overload, which caused Alexa to stop functioning properly. This prevented users from doing a number of holiday-related things, such as get instructions for that new peppermint cake recipe or something as simple as turning on ‘Santa Claus is Coming to Town.’

For some reason, U.S. users were apparently not affected by this outage. It seems that people in the U.K. and Germany were the ones most affected, with other consumers in other parts of Europe suffering to a lesser degree as well.

Amazon has commented about the outage and confirmed that the servers have been fixed. All Amazon Alexa devices should be working properly by now. The last thing anyone wants is for their assistant to stop functioning and bring down the mood. No one likes a Grinch. Especially a tech Grinch.
