Apple May Be Changing iPhone Charging Cables Again

There’s a new rumor going around online that Apple may be changing their iPhone charging cables… again.

Currently, all iPhone devices after the iPhone 4 are using the lightning cable, which the company has been using for more than 6 years now. However, a new industry report from chain blog Macotakara is saying that Apple may finally make the switch to USB Type-C, after implementing it on their recent iPad Pro. USB-C cables are normally only found on Android devices.

This comes with both pros and cons for existing iPhone users. The two main cons that people are seeing is the eventual phase-out of the lightning cable, as well as the additional cost of having to buy a new USB-C cable. Lightning cables cost about $25 right now, definitely higher than most USB-C cables.

At the same time, users who also own an Android device that utilizes USB-C won’t need to have two cords once Apple moves away from the lightning cable. USB-C also supports fast charging, which can be greatly beneficial to the user.

The jury is still out on this one, but all we can do right now is to wait and see if Apple will indeed make the switch.
