Gamer fans can either rejoice or sulk, as Netflix has finally closed the casting deal on who will play Geralt of Rivia in the acclaimed video game and book series’ adaptation into a Netflix original show. It’s none than Superman himself, Henry Cavill.
Cavill, who has been a long time supporter of the franchise, noted he was thrilled to get to play the “role of his dreams” by portraying a character he has followed through multiple adventures. All of the games in The Witcher trilogy have been critically acclaimed for their expansive worlds, gameplay, and ingenuity. Additionally, the fantasy novels by Andrzej Sapkowski that spurred the video games and spin-off are sure to see a rise in sales knowing that Cavill will be playing the titular role. Without those books, this series would not even be a pipeline dream.
The Netflix show will debut with an eight-episode season, however no release date has been penned yet. And while most gamers might not think of Cavill as the perfect representation of Geralt, the enthusiasm he holds for the character and the investment in his backstory will make it a passionate performance no matter what the outcome is.
