Fight Climate Change and Plant a Tree

It ain’t gonna fix the problem, but it does help.

Scientists estimate that planting trees on 0.9 billion hectares of land could trap about two-thirds of the carbon released by human activities. Obviously, this is a lot of land to plant trees on across the entire Earth, but it can be done because the Earth has that amount of land available.

A recent study looked at satellite images to see where trees could be planted and grow naturally in various ecosystems. By doing this, we would not only be helping with climate change, but also preserving birds, insects, and other creatures that inhabit that area.

But, this is a project that people need to act on now. Earth’s climate could drastically change by 2050 and this will shrink the amount of space available to plant trees. The impact of storing carbon will be just one of the ways that planting trees will help the climate. Adding all of these trees will also help to cool the environment by releasing cloud-forming molecules into the air.

Planting all these trees doesn’t ultimately solve the climate change problem, but it does provide valuable extra time. Reducing greenhouse gases is the real answer to stopping climate change, but that is much easier said than done.
