That’s a whole lotta Mac.
According to an IHS Markit report released by Forbes, Apple may launch a 16″ version of its MacBook Pro later this year, perhaps during the September announcements.
If it pulls through, this will be the largest MacBook in the past 8 years, following only the 17-inch MacBook Pro offered way back in 2011. The new MacBook will also apparently have a brand new LCD screen equipped with a 3,072 by 1,920 resolution. It will also be getting a processor upgrade, apart from the recent upgrade that MacBook Pros just underwent this year.
At the moment, Apple offers MacBook Pros in 13.3-inch and 15.4-inch versions. An upgraded 16-inch version of the MacBook Pro is a huge step-up from the more lightweight MacBook Air, making it a better choice for professionals and creatives like video and photo editors. If the Air is better suited for students or travelers who are always on the go, MacBook Pros have always been pegged as the company’s more high-powered, high-performance laptops.
In addition to this, the new MacBook Pro is also expected to have a new and improved keyboard, following the Butterfly keyboard issues of some newer MacBook units.
TF Securities’ Ming-Chi Kuo also reported back in February that this is something Apple might do, though the analyst didn’t specify a time frame for the release. A September release is anticipated for the MacBook Pros at the moment, presumably during Apple’s annual announcement of the new iPhones and Apple Watch.
