Russian Robotics Report

The United Nations has already had a discussion on whether or not killer robots belong in the future of warfare, and we love talking about robots here at UnCached, so let’s find out what Russia is doing to improve its military with the latest trends in technology.

First off, Geek.com reported that Russia is going to be sending two “sharpshooter” robots into space. Yes, that was a real sentence. In 2019, a pair of FEDOR robots are going to be launched to the international space station. FEDOR stands for Final Experimental Demonstration Object Research, but these robots are packing heat, being described as “gun toting” and “weight lifting.” The robots will be flying their own ship to the ISS for this “research” and “demonstration,” so we’re still trying to figure out what the guns are for. Maybe its to rival Trump’s Space Force.

Additionally, we have robotic exoskeletons for soldiers to wear in combat. The full body armor looks straight out of a science-fiction film, with a heads up display and sleek exterior armor to resist bullets. While this is all just a prototype for now, it would reportedly be $60,000 per soldier to build and distribute each suit.
These designs themselves were seemingly inspired by the U.S. Army’s “Iron Man” suits that debuted back in 2013.

My prediction is that, within the next few years, we’ll start seeing the debut of military equipment that looks straight out of Call of Duty: Black Ops. You know, the game where you can hover in your body suit. That would certainly raise the bar in the midst of battle.
