‘Minecraft: Dungeons’ Coming in 2019

Minecraft has reached that coveted spot in the multiplayer gaming world; “passive existence,” I like to call it. Whether you hear people talking about it or not, you just sort of know that it’s still enjoying notoriety and success. It seems Mojang is ready to use that notoriety to pursue a new project.

Mojang, along with Microsoft, have announced a new spin-off game to the Minecraft franchise: Minecraft: Dungeons. Dungeons, fitting with its name, will be a dungeon-crawler game in the same vein as Diablo, with one to four players navigating large mazes, defeating hordes of enemies, and collecting and upgrading their equipment. Reps from Mojang have stated that Dungeons is a bit of a passion project for the team, as many of them have a long-time love for dungeon-crawler games (which actually explains some things about Minecraft‘s mechanics).

No word on platforms yet, but the team is shooting for a release some time in 2019.
