Google held their annual Made by Google event this morning, where they revealed some new details about their Pixel Buds, the release date for Google Stadia (it’s November 19th), and some other stuff. The real main-stage event, though, was the official unveiling of Google’s new Pixel smartphone, the Pixel 4, hot on the heels of months of rumors and supposed leaks.
So what’s new with this neat little brick? Well, first and foremost, the Pixel 4’s camera features a radar sensor called “Soli” that allows it to detect and interpret gestures. So basically, you can control this phone by waving your hand in front of it rather than touching it. The Pixel 4 will also feature a larger 90hz display, a faster, more accurate version of Google Assistant, and a real-time voice recording app. Also, it comes in three colors: red, black, and white.
While Google phones aren’t always the kings of the hill, they do serve as a good test case for new Android operating systems, so it should have the most recent Android OS right out of the box.
You can pre-order the Pixel 4 right now starting at $799, and it’ll ship next week on October 24th. All major cell carriers should support it.
